Nothing quite beats the feeling of stepping out of the salon with a fresh blow-dry, making you feel like your the lead star in your own movie. We’d give almost anything to make that feeling last, with the bounce, volume, and shine of your hair.
Sadly, it never quite lasts as long as you would like, and often despite the investment you put into our at-home salon techniques, it’s never quite turned out as you hoped. Thankfully, we have some expert tips on how to get that salon look at home. So, grab your hairdryer, and read on!
1. Protect - Hydrate - Set
If you’ve gathered a collection of sprays, mists, foams, and mousses, but do you know what they do how to use them? Before you apply any heat to the hair, it needs protection, so first, liberally apply a dedicated heat protection spray.
Once protected, you should next boost moisture levels by using hydrating products, such as a good blow dry lotion. Finally, focus on setting your style in place with a flexible hold hairspray or a texture spray for a more undone, 'cool girl' aesthetic.
2. Get to know your nozzles
In the salon, your stylist blow-dries your hair so that all your cuticles are facing the same way, to get that very soft and smooth finish. Using the nozzle on your hairdryer, and directing it downwards at home will help seal the cuticle, and get them to lie flatter.
3. Remember the 80 per cent rule
If you've ever tried to properly blow dry your hair at home, you'll know it can feel a lot like arm day at the gym. However, you do not need to start styling your hair until it’s 80 per cent dry. Rough dry your hair first, using a nozzle, until it is around 80 per cent dry, then use a paddle brush to smooth the hair.
