If your new year’s resolution was to seek a change of career, you will be in very good company, according to new research from LinkedIn.
Research by the professional network site found that no less than plan to change their jobs this year, amounting to 67 per cent of the workforce.
Nor is this chiefly the result of people wanting to “quit the rat race” to freshen things up after many years in one particular industry; the highest numbers seeking change are in Generation Z, where 77 per cent of people are thinking of switching jobs.
The figures are the highest for any European country, which could be coincidence - after all, someone has to finish top - but may also be a reflection on working patterns in the UK and a justified high level of dissatisfaction.

The LinkedIn research found a range of different reasons for people wanting to change. For 37 per cent, it was to increase salary, while 29 per cent are seeking a better work-life balance. In the latter case, there is a clear gender-based split, with 32 per cent of women highlighting this motivation for change compared with 24 per cent of men.
Career changers will be encouraged by the availability of jobs in the economy; the latest shows that in the last three months of 2021 the number of vacancies rose to almost 1.25 million, a record high.
However, that does not mean anyone can just walk into one of these posts. Many will require specific vocational qualifications. So if you want to train for something now, now may be the best time ever to do it.
