Lockdown Locks: Is Grey Here To Stay?
Banks may have shut, supermarkets run low on food, and schools closed their doors on pupils, but one of the first things people worried about when the government imposed lockdown was not being able to go to their salon for their regular touch-ups.
Ladies everywhere are used to scheduling their regular hair appointments, getting their nails done every few weeks, staying fuzz-free with frequent waxes, or making sure their brows and eyelashes remain in good condition. However, after their favourite beauticians had to close, they have been left to their own devices.
This has had mixed results, with many having to find creative ways to look after their lockdown locks. However, one trend that has emerged that could be here to stay is people embracing their grey roots.
Unable to get their silver tresses dyed professionally over the last couple of months, lots of people simply let their natural shade shine through – after all, self-isolating meant they weren’t exactly seeing anyone!
One fan of the #greyhair hashtag, which now has more than two million tags on Instagram, is Susan Delgado.

how she recently wrote on her social media account: “I’ve been dyeing my hair for as long as I can remember, maybe around 15 years. I think letting it grow out has been part of the laziness that’s been engendered by lockdown. Then it struck me how absurd it was to keep dyeing it.”
Celebrity stylish Ryan Kay also thinks this is a good time to experiment with different hair styles, including white roots.
Speaking with Manchester Evening News, the hair expert, who has worked with Lady Gaga in the past, said we should “embrace the grey” and give our locks a rest until salons open again.
