When we typically think of the looks
we want to learn when taking a hair and makeup course, we tend to think of the bigger, braver and bolder looks that get noticed when out and about.
Daytime makeup, on the other hand, is the complete opposite of this, relying on subtlety and fundamental skills that create a beautiful, natural look.
This can sometimes make it even more difficult to pull off than a bold statement look, but with some of these top tips, you can get a flawless look to fit into your routine every day.
Prime Your Skin
The fundamental secret to success in makeup is priming your skin. Your face is your canvas, after all, and you always want to start a work of art on a blank canvas.
Whilst every person’s skin needs are unique, a good priming routine often starts with a calming
toner
to hydrate and make it feel soft and smooth, before adding hyaluronic acid, retinol and other serums before applying an enriched moisturiser to layer and lock in these ingredients.
After this, apply a makeup primer to keep your makeup in place and looking as fresh throughout the day as the second you applied it.
The Key Is Blending
Blending is the most important part of eye makeup, so ensure you have a wet sponge and a quality brush
Use an under-eye cream before you you apply your concealer to stop it from creasing, and use your finger to pat the concealer and remove any excess before you blend it and apply a loose powder to set it.
This is also the case when creating an easy smokey eye look, with the key being to blend the darker shade on your lower eyelids and the lighter shade by the crease of your eye together.
This, in combination with mascara and a high-quality lip balm, creates a perfect daytime look.
Evolution Not Revolution
Once you perfect your daytime look, you can easily evolve it into a striking nighttime look by adding a shimmer to your smokey eye and a bold colour lipstick or lipgloss to get yourself quickly ready for the nighttime.
